Towards a more sustainable maritime future

In October 2025, Maison Hennessy will begin a new chapter in its maritime expeditions, with the first transatlantic crossing of Neoliner Origin cargo ship. As the first Spirits Maison among the pioneering shippers to support the French start-up Neoline since 2020, Hennessy has committed to shipping 4 million bottles on this vessel per year. Wind-powered, it reduces COâ‚‚ emissions by 80 to 90% compared with a conventional vessel of the same size.

Neoliner Origin

A 136-meter cargo ship with 3,000 square meters of sails, Neoliner Origin is designed to sail at a sustainable commercial speed of around 11 knots, ensuring controlled impact on marine ecosystems. It will carry the equivalent of 20 containers of Hennessy cognac each month, sailing from Saint-Nazaire to Baltimore, with stops at Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and Halifax.

Between 85% and 90% of Hennessy cognac is shipped by sea. To achieve the goal of reducing COâ‚‚ emissions by 30% by 2033 (compared to figures from 2023), the Maison is rethinking its shipping models: "We have ambitious targets for reducing our carbon footprint. Thanks to wind power, Neoliner Origin will be able to significantly reduce it compared to that of an equivalent vessel," explains Mathieu Testud, Supply Chain Director.

Two centuries of maritime expeditions

With this crossing, our Maison is reconnecting with its first maritime expeditions. From the barges of the Charente River to tall ships like the Hermione, our archives keep records of them all. Today, Neoliner Origin carries this pioneering spirit forward, reviving this deep bond with the Atlantic.
